Watercolour for Beginners

If you’re new to watercolours or want to improve your skills and techniques while enjoying a class with like-minded people, this relaxed and informal workshop is perfect for you.

This workshop is designed for total beginners, starting from the basics. You will learn about different types of watercolour papers, my preferences, and the reasons behind them, as well as how to stretch your paper and when you need to.
We’ll also cover different watercolour paints and types of brushes. You’ll be introduced to basic colour mixing and learn how to create a variety of beautiful colours using only 3 primary colours. Then, you’ll learn various watercolour effects and techniques using the new colours, practice different brushstrokes, and create resource pages to take home for further learning.
Finally, you’ll finish with a small artwork using the techniques learned, leaving you feeling like a true artist! All necessary painting materials for the workshop are included in the cost. You’ll leave with a small palette of leftover paints to take home, plenty of inspiration and new knowledge to continue practicing at home, along with your watercolour notes and a small masterpiece.

This workshop is perfect for introducing beginners to watercolour painting or for self-taught watercolour artists who may be struggling with their results.

All workshops are run by myself Jodie Westall Kimpton I am a professional Artist and Watercolour Tutor and Gallery owner, I have been painting and designing for over 30 years. Watercolour is my favourite medium – it is my daily meditation, my joy, it has been my therapy many times over and is the quiet place where my heart finds clarity when life gets too noisy. The simple practice of loosing myself in my painting is very rejuvenating – I look forward to sharing my art journey and night with you.

No experience required – open to all ages over 16.
